Really?! I had some therapy minded individual tell me awhile ago that emotions are like children. If they are already upset and you lock them away in the closet they will go from upset to even more upset, angry and probably freaked out – right?! I hope you don’t have a literal experience of this, but metaphorically you get it right. Well your own anger and upset are the same and now research is supporting this. Acknowledging and allowing negative emotions (ok NOT acting them out!) actually lead to better mental health.
